  • The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
  • The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
  • Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  • Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  • Increased participation in competitive sport

Engagement of all pupils in physical activity and the Profile of PE and Sport

What our children think about their PE lessons?

  • 'We really like PE in the morning… it wakes us up for our learning.' Year 5
  • 'It is different to our other lessons. I love it.' Year 3
  • 'I enjoy working in a team and learning new skills.' Year 6
  • 'It was really good going swimming again, I feel I have improved.' Year 4

Increased confidence, knowledge & skills of all teaching staff

Over the last few years, our teachers have had the opportunity to participate in the CCFC Primary stars programme, Engage! Tag Rugby programme, One Body, One Life and newly rebranded CVlife tag rugby programme. The aim of the programmes is to use the external coaches to engage primary school children in the areas of PE & School Sport.

The various coaches have worked alongside our staff to not only inspire children in PE (working on Fundamental Movement Skills) but to help develop the class teacher’s confidence, subject knowledge and skills in teaching primary PE and school sport.

They have also raised the profile of PE and leading an active lifestyle across the school, by delivering a number of assemblies, intra and inter sports festivals and supporting out annual sports day with activities such as the  'Speed-shot' challenge.

Mrs Sidhu said 'It has been an inspiring programme and has really improved my knowledge and understanding of PE. I feel more confident in teaching fundamental skills and following a PE lesson plan.'

Increased participation in competitive sport

During Autumn Term 2019, our children have participated in a variety of competitions including:

Level 1

  • KS1/ KS2 Multi skills
  • KS2 Gymnastics
  • Y6 Rowing

Level 2

  • Y5/ Y6 Sports hall Athletics
  • Y6 Tag Rugby festival
  • Y2 Multi-skills festival
  • Y3/ 4 Football competition

Due to Government guidance,  PE and School Sport has changed. However, our school was recognised as continuing to support, commit and engage the  pupils in virtual sports competitions and were awarded the School Games award.
