All children in Year 5 get the opportunity to participate in the
'Silver Cycle Training Course on road skills.'
The Council’s award-winning cycle courses encourage cycling as a healthy form of exercise that can boost children’s independence, improve fitness and promotes cycling as an effective and efficient means of transport. Cycle training can also play an important part in the education and
development of safe, confident road users for the future.
Training starts off as playground based, but then moves on to quiet, local roads. Children are provided with high visibility tops for the on road section of the training and are fully supervised in
small groups by Council trained instructors. When training takes place at school a member of staff is asked to accompany the group for the on road part of the training.
